Starting with Tony Robbins, but even his predecessors, Jim Rohn etc, this 'gospel of personal development' has been preached.
The idea is that if you are simply smart enough, strong enough, powerful enough, you can be rich, you can have the trophy wife, the relationship you want, and then you have no worries in the world.
/It ignores community. / It ignores the fact that people work together for thousands of years to accomplish things.
And it ignores the fact that we have very big and powerful groups working together to do things that are not good.
I don't know if you've known rich people or not, but notice: do they have any worries?
And if you've ever been to Africa or a developed places, you'll find a lot of happy people who don't do any of these things.
What do they have that people in advanced societies right now are missing, especially in the United States?
In fact, intimacy, connection, and relationship are probably the most important needs of human beings. If you don't have them, it doesn't really matter how good your food is, how nice your car is, or how big your bank account.
We ignore connection at our peril.
We reduce everything to "personal" development at our peril.
The reason this isn't true is because we, as humans are able to go much further, accomplish much more collectively than individually.
Look around. Everything around you is only possible because other people have done them. And so many amazing things in other people's lives are only possible because you have done it.
It works the other way, too.
And yet so much energy is wasted on making the world worse for everyone via pollution and warfare and abuse...and that needs to be fixed.
Actual deep connection between two people who are focused is miraculous.
As Jesus said: if two people are focused, they can move mountains.
He doesn't say "you can move mountains all alone if you just set your mind to it"--isn't that interesting.
But the big question is how do we unify their minds and their efforts, isn't it?
If you think of us like a beehive, one bee could do nothing. One beehive can build complex geometric shapes, fill it with honey and master the world.
The Secret:
- UNTIL WE LEARN TO BE UNIFIED AND FOCUSED, WE WON'T ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING.
Therefore: UNTIL YOU'RE WILLING TO COMMIT AND MOVE FORWARD WITH A GROUP OF PEOPLE, YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT ANY CHANGES.
WHICH MEANS THAT THE FUTURE BELONGS TO TRIBES.
And they are being established NOW.
